Where did the celebration of birthdays come from?

 Hello, Friends,

Did you know that the celebration of birthdays started 3,000 B.C.E in Egypt to honor the Pharaoh who they believed was a living god.  The Greeks honored the God Artemis  with moon shaped cakes and candles for a glowing effect.  I am wondering if the round shape of birthday cakes comes the idea that he is the god of the moon.

Ancient Romans started the celebrations of birthdays for the common man. Women's birthdays were not celebrated till the 12th century. Germany was the first to celebrate in the late 18th century something called a kinderfeste much like the birthday parties today for children.

Example of a early birthday card.

Some examples of birthday cards I have available in my stores.
