Currier and Ives dishes ..
I grew- up around women who have a love for antiques. I remember my aunt had quite the collection of these type of dishes so this blog post is for her. Currier and Ives dishes were made in the 50's by the royal china company.
Some interesting information about collecting this type of china common items to collect are dinner plates tea cups and saucers, berry bowls, bread and butter plates, salad plates. These are the type of pieces you will find in yard sales flea markets.
Some very rare items are cereal bowls, Glass wear tabbed plates, platters, oval serving bowls, chop plates that come in three sizes gravy boats and sugar and creamers butter dishes.
Extreme rare items are the green colored sets that were for Christmas. The most rare of all the pieces are tea pot and three tier serving stand and egg plate and hurricane lamp , clock.
You can still pick up the common pieces at flea markets and yard sales but always be on the look out for the rare items . Make sure the pieces you buy have no cracks, blemish's etc. The pieces are great for the china cabinet and to decorate your home with. Even looking in antique malls could uncover a treasure or two because not every dealer specializes in everything and you could get a deal.
If you decide you want to buy from a dealer who knows the value of what they have please check the on-line guides to make sure you are not paying to much. Good luck with the hunt and have fun.
Have a great day, Nora
